Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air Leaks Reveal Bold Battery & Design Changes

Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air Leaks Reveal Bold Battery & Design Changes
By Tech Desk | Updated: August 4, 2025
With the official launch of the next-generation iPhones just weeks away, new leaks are giving us a clearer picture of what to expect from the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air. The latest insider reports suggest significant design changes — including the possibility of different battery sizes depending on the market — something Apple has never done before.
From iPhone 17 Air to iPhone 17 Pro – A Leak Correction
Initially, a well-known Apple leaker, Majin Bu, claimed to have obtained images of the iPhone 17 Air battery. However, they later corrected the statement, clarifying that the battery shown actually belonged to the iPhone 17 Pro. The update brought an even more intriguing detail: Apple might produce two different versions of the iPhone 17 Pro’s battery, tailored for different regions.
Two Battery Versions – A First for iPhones
According to the leak, U.S. models will receive a wider L-shaped battery that takes advantage of the extra space left by the removal of the physical SIM card tray, potentially offering longer battery life. In contrast, international models — which still require a SIM slot — will feature a slightly smaller battery.
While the exact difference in capacity remains unknown, even a small increase could give U.S. buyers a noticeable boost in battery performance.
iPhone 17 Air – Slim Yet Powerful
Majin Bu has also shared what they now confirm to be the battery for the iPhone 17 Air. If the leak is accurate, it will feature a capacity of around 2,900mAh, measure just 2.49mm thick, and come with a steel casing. Side-by-side images with the iPhone 17 Pro battery highlight its much slimmer profile.
Interestingly, only one version of the iPhone 17 Air battery has been shown so far. This raises the question — will the iPhone 17 Air be launched exclusively as an eSIM-only device with no physical SIM card tray? Given that eSIM availability is still limited in certain regions, such a move would be surprising, though a thinner frame might leave Apple with no other option.
What This Means for Apple Fans
If these leaks prove correct, the iPhone 17 Pro could offer longer battery life in the U.S. than in other countries for the first time, while the iPhone 17 Air may be Apple’s slimmest and most portable iPhone yet. However, questions remain about eSIM adoption and how Apple plans to handle markets where eSIM is not yet fully supported.
With the official announcement expected next month, Apple enthusiasts won’t have to wait long to find out which of these bold design changes will make it into the final release.
